Carlisle Mountaineering Club are a friendly, welcoming group and we are always pleased welcome new members. Anyone can come along to a club events to meet the regular members. We are a friendly bunch and appreciate how hard it is for a newcomer to our area to make contacts an d find climbing partners.

Members have access to a full programme of club events. During spring and summer we have meets every other weekend, with climbing meets around North Cumbria and the Lake District on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, or Penrith climbing wall in the winter months. We also have a climbing meet away most months, of two days or more, which usually involves staying in a climbing hut, camping barn or lodge. During the winter we have very popular meets in the Cairngorms, Glen Coe or Ben Nevis areas and through summer, a good programme of weekend meets in The Lake District, The Peak, North Wales and Scotland.  The club also has a programme of presentations and lectures and the Annual dinner.

Check out our Meets by going to Evening or Day and Weekend Meets.

Unfortunately the Club is not equipped or qualified to teach rock climbing so a basic ability to rock climb is required. As long as you can display a level of competence in belaying and rope work, you can tag along. If you would like to learn about rock climbing or are not sure of your competence then contact Phil Tinning, through Ray Cassidy, for information regarding courses on a local climbing wall.

Carlisle Mountaineering Club are affiliated to the BMC, so membership gets you affiliated membership of the BMC and club insurance while on club trips, as well as the usual range of discounts available to club members.
