about the club newCarlisle Mountaineering Club is a long established club, close to the English Lake District, catering for people with a wide range of hill walking and climbing interests. A busy, friendly club with a good base of active members, mainly in Carlisle and Penrith but also elsewhere in Northern Cumbria.

The club currently has over 100 members, from a wide range of backgrounds and ages, who are involved in a wide range of mountain activities, so there's always something going on to suit all tastes! These range from scrambling, bouldering, climbing and mountaineering in the spring and summer, to winter snow and ice climbing, and alpinism for the more adventurous. If that sounds too strenuous, or the weather's awful, then some of us just go for a walk!

During spring and summer we have meets every other weekend, with climbing meets around Cumbria on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, or Penrith climbing wall in the winter months. We also have a climbing meet away most months, of two days or more, which usually involves staying in a climbing hut, camping barn or lodge. During the winter we have very popular meets in the Cairngorms, Glen Coe or Ben Nevis areas and through summer, a good programme of weekend meets in The Lake District, The Peak District, North Wales and Scotland. The club also has a programme of presentations and lectures to inspire next year's adventures, the AGM and Annual dinner.
