Rain on Friday night left spirits a bit dampened on the Saturday morning, but nevertheless two climbing parties headed off into Coire Lagan, John and Dennis thoroughly enjoying the excellent Cioch West on the lower slabs, while Phil W and Phil Curtis headed off up Cioch Gully, somewhere between its summer V Diff and winter grade III…..yes they found a patch of snow! and finishing off on Wallwork’s Route on the upper crag. Phil C admitted later that it had been his best day out in the mountains ever. All this….and no epics! |

After a brief wise man tutorial about Yorkshire limestone and crafty glance at the web weather windows, Giggleswick evolved into the destination of least likely trauma. A motley crew of the usual suspects and 1 worried looking interloper from Keswick shoehorned themselves into a few less cars than they started in and convoyed from Penrith. There were lots of worried murmurs along the lines of “…too bloody ‘ard there…” as the mighty precipices loomed nearer. |

Thursday 10th April found myself, Jane Metcalfe, Julie Butterworth and Martin Smith at Scratchmere Scar, enjoying a pleasant, midge free, evening with fantastic views in the recently scrubbed air. Please note for the future that there is now a proper car park by the bottom of the wood.

Yet again the weather played its wild card and conspired to strip all the good snow and ice below about 4000ft so it was not surprising that no less than 10 folks dropped out of this meet. The folks who did turn up had a varied weekend, the walkers seeming to have the best of it, thanks to Helen for the following report of their weekend. |
