Climbing with a Good Read

Jane Metcalfe was asked by Cumbria Library to help publicise the National Year of Reading by reading a book while climbing! The Lakeland Climbing Centre at Kendal were asked to provide the venue and a date was set for early May. Barry Clarke was asked to provide a belay and Julie Butterworth came in at the last minute to take photographs of the event.

On the day there were two photographers. The first just wanted Jane on the wall, reading a book. They started off on the slab wall next to the cafe, and then moved onto the big overhang for more action shots. The other photographer wanted more of a ‘Mission Impossible’ type theme going on and extra staff from the Centre were roped in to help provide ‘stunt’ support. Jane was in her element on front of the camera, as you can see from the photos!

Everybody enjoyed their morning in the limelight, and hopefully the publicity will be appearing in a local newspaper soon!
